SMART CAMPUS: DEFINITION, FRAMEWORK, TCHNOLOGIES, AND SERVICES

As the high-end form of a smart education system, the smart campus has received increasing research attention over the world. Owing to the multidisciplinary nature of the smart campus, the existing research is mostly one-ended on either the state-or-the-art technologies or the innovative education concepts but lacks a deep fusion view on them and omits the smart campus implication on other smart city domains. This study highlights the interdisciplinary view on smart campus. Based on an integral review on the supporting technologies and existing smart campus propositions, a human-centred learning-oriented smart campus is envisaged, defined and framed up, primarily aiming at meeting stakeholders’ interests and elevating educational performance in pace of the technology development, as well as discussing the interdisciplinary factors that either promote or constrain the smart campus revolution. The expected contribution throughout this study is to provide a benchmark reference of a smart campus for international educational providers, government, and technological companies providing such services.

Smart campus: a user case study in Hong Kong

Smart campus, as a high-end form of a smart education system and a mini-scopic version of a smart city, has received increasing research and attention globally. The existing smart campus concepts are mostly technology-driven, which simply introduces interconnection from a technological perspective to serve its residents but not necessarily adhering to the needs and interests of stakeholders in such a community. To fill this gap, this study presents a human-centred approach for smart campus design and development, where a user case survey study is undertaken in Hong Kong primary and secondary schools. The overall aim of the survey is to accurately and timely capture and understand the perspectives of school stakeholders on education applications in the context of the smart campus. The findings from survey analysis are presented, with insights and suggestions for future smart campus development provided. The findings in this study are also expected to result in a benchmark reference of the smart campus concept for international educational providers, government, and technology companies that will deliver smart solutions.

A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW ON TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATION IN SMART CAMPUS: A HUMAN-CENTERED CASE STUDY

Smart campus is the high-end form of the education system with advanced ICT to achieve high efficiency and effectiveness in learning. This paper provides an overview of the latest smart campus technologies and applications, with a focuse on the human centred smart campus concept. Case studies are provided as well to further illustrate the human centred smart campus practices and trends to best meet campus stakeholder needs.

A hybrid assessment framework for human‐centred sustainable smart campus: A case study on COVID‐19 impact

The outbreak of the COVID‐19 pandemic has recently posed unprecedented challenges to educational institutes. Alongside the technological advancement, the existing studies indicate that the success of smart campus development mainly depends on three key dimensions: technology capability, sustainability, and student health and well‐being. However, the state‐of‐the‐art assessment on smart campus are mostly unilaterally dependent but lack a balanced evaluation of the three dimensions. The smart campus assessment index resulting from the proposed framework is constructed under a limiting factor formulation to jointly model the individual contributions from the three dimensions as well as their trade‐off relationship.
